I've lived here since 95 and have had the water tested locally a
number of times. Iron content always high, floride non existent to 3
times normal as well as clorine. Never found any harmful bacteria.
Bottom line is it varies widely by water district and, like any large
city, by time of year. Brita is very simple ion exchange filter and
will remove some clorine, floride and iron but it is impossible to
tell when it stops working.
Russia technically has strict water rules, but like many things here
one should not trust that the rules are enforced. I'd say, simply
don't drink the water, buy reputable bottled water like nestle who
really does take care if the product is properly filtered.
There are plenty of horror stories abt unreported contamination from
the past to keep me from drinking from the taps!!
