There is virtually no need to get a Russian driver's license. There has been a change in the law and you can drive as long as you want -- without leaving the country -- on a foreign driver's license that is accompanied by a notarized translation. The guys at the Moscow "foreigners'" GIBDD office say that this is the way to go.
