Hoyt, I've never compiled a kernel to not use modules, so I don't know anything about that. Anyway, I cd to /lib/modules and do a depmod -a. This will create a modules.dep. Also, I always have a /etc/conf.modules. I'm not sure if you need one, since you are not using any modules. I always load my NICs and sound devices as modules. Maybe this helps. Steve
