You misunderstood. As root type "passwd <username>" where
"<username>" is the name of the user who's password you
want changed. I'm *guessing* that this is something that is
best done as "root." Or you can try the X-based user
manager and see if you can change the user's password that
way. I've read that the graphical user-manager has some
problems.
