either or its a way of saying "can't find /usr/bin/gawk" or is a
type in the makefile... IIRC, I had the same problem, and fixing the
makefile make it work...

see in your server if you're allowing inbound packets for nis. may
be host.allow and host.deny are messing up everytihng... add this line to
hosts.allow:
ypserv:.di.unc.edu.ar, 192.168.1., 127.0.0.1
(replace names and numbers to your needs)
