[expert] NCR 53C*xx raid controller

[mandrake]

I have a compaq proliant mk530 with the NCR 53C8XX pci raid controller and mandrake 
7.1 will not recognize the disk attached to it.  When trying to install I get the 
following error:

no valid devices were found on which to create new file system.

The system has redhat 6.2 installed so I know the controller/disks are fine.

Any ideas why?
