The /24 means "the first 24 bits are the network." 
(Put another way, that's the network mask.)

This can also be written / 255.255.255.0; means the same thing, but /24
saves typing.

I doubt that this explains your problem, but if you are posting about a
difference, it might help to see what yours says.
