It is _safer_ than doing so from w95.

In the case of nt you would want to read nt files with linux and read linux
files with explore2fs BOTH vice-versas are somewhat unlikely to succeed. For
linux, there is not enough knowledge of the organizaion of NTFS (it is still
officially a Microsoft trade secret), and for explore2fs, there is much
happening on ext2 fileystems (sparse superblocks and the like). Eventually,
ext2 will freeze (more or less) again and explore2fs will catch up if the
author or his successors choose to keep updating it. Explore2fs is a good
package, and conscientiously done, but when the author asks you to read a FAQ
before installing/using it, he's telling you that if the software turns you
into a sperm whale, then you _will_ live on a diet of giant squid.

Obviously, if some do not take the risk, there is little chance the package
will improve. So, if you have space and if you have interest in seeing the
package improve, create a minimal linux install and do lots of writing to it.
And report bugs to the author.
