                    Linux-Mandrake Update Advisory
________________________________________________________________________

Package name: logrotate/sysklogd
Date: October 10th, 2000
Original Advisory Date: September 29th, 2000
Advisory ID: MDKA-2000:009-1

Affected versions: 7.1
________________________________________________________________________

Problem Description:

There is a problem with logrotate where it continually archives the
files in /var/log/news and /var/log/mail whether they are already
archived or not. Because of this, the archives are never removed and
can cause the device to fill up. This update corrects this problem.

Update:

While the logrotate package helped with the problem, it did not
entirely fix it. This updated sysklogd package is also required to
eliminate the problem entirely. Please reference MDKSA-2000:050-1 for
more information on upgrading sysklogd from a security standpoint.
