[expert] aKtion! Very Slow in LM7.2 But Not LM7.1 - Why?

I used to be able to play AVI files using "aKtion!" on Mandrake 7.1.  But 
since doing a fresh LM-7.2 install on the same machine, "aKtion!" is now 
very very slow.  What is causing this? Has the software changed?  How can 
this function normally again?
