I don't understand this. A problem is repeating itself.
I have XFree86-4.0.2 installed and running on a Mandrake 7.2 system,
kernel-2.2.17-21mdk, KDE 2.1beta2 (20010122). Every time I try to run a
windoze app with wine, it goes through a mess of font messages:

etc, etc. This crap goes on and on forever and ever. Then, at some point in
this mess the fontserver dies and I am no longer able to open ANY X apps
(KDE, gnome, X, whatever...no apps will start because X cannot find font
'fixed'.
I already have a terminal open when this happens so it keeps working. I go
to superuser and do a "/etc/init.d/xfs start" and this fixes everything. I
am able to use X and all apps without difficulty.
WHAT IS THIS GODDAMN 'fixed' FONT THAT X NEVER FINDS?!!! What the hell is it
with X that JUST because it can't find ONE font type, it totally dies instead
of just going with whatever other useful font is on the system. Here is the

As far as I can tell using drakfont, there is NOTHING wrong with my fonts.
NOTHING I TELL YOU! What do I need to do to make #$>!@!!!#$)*!@ X work with
the perfectly fine fonts on my system? What is it about running any windoze
app in wine that wrecks the train?
