Until recently, I have been quite happy with my obsolete but perfectly
useable voodoo2 card. Since upgrading to a 2.4.x kernel and XFree86-4.0.x,
however, I find that I cannot use the card. I have the 3dfx device driver
source and have built it with my updated system but it doesn't work - the
char-major-107 doesn't exist anymore.

Looking for updated drivers, there are none. Does anyone know how to make a
voodoo2 work with 2.4.x and XFree86-4.0.x? The tdfx driver in the kernel
source is not for the voodoo2. I made the mistake of loading that module and
then running "test3Dfx" and it totally locked up my system. I had to hard
reboot to get my system back. I must say, as a side note, that I always
select the Magic key during kernel xconfig but I have yet to find a situation
that wrecked a running linux (like the voodoo test mentioned above) or
various other things I have done with sound, in which that key combo is of
any use. I have had to hard reboot 6 times this evening because of some
bizarro sound problem or the 3dfx problem.
