Actually, in my humble opinion, I would stay with (X)emacs, as it really is
easy to lean, and will allow you to use just about anything. It took me
about 2 hours to have a good working knowledge of it, and utilize the easy
keystroke commands. The openng page of macs will give you a tutorial.
What makes it doubly interesting, is that Xemacs (so is Gvim) is available
with a winders version too. I use both all the time.. My thoughts, learn
at least one editor well, and you can use it in any OS. I prefer VIM, as
keystroking is faster for me, so when in Macs, I just use the Viper VIM
mode, so no modification is necessary. (X)emacs is extremely powerful, and
will allow you to do most anything, including text to speech playback..
