Dear friends:

I have been trying to reach an expert via the new MandrakeExpert program
inaugurated with LM 8.0. It's a fabulous idea, and I have succeeded in
accessing it a number of times but failed to make the right contact.

I configured my ADSL and Internet Sharing when I first installed my LM 8.0
using the new Wizards in Mandrake Control Center. Setting up ADSL and
Internet Sharing was a breeze (thanks to the wonderful help I received with
configuring my Internet Sharing in LM 7.2 from one of our senior list
members). Doing it in Lm 7.2 was a major operation. In LM 8.0 it's a snap, so
long as everything goes right. Within minutes I had Internet Sharing, which
allowed our second PC computer to connect with the Linux PC. Both computers
were able to access the Internet with the same lightning ADSL speed.

Well, something went wrong. I lost my configuration, and could not get back
online. I tried to use my USR 56k, which has ALWAYS worked in the past (in Lm
7.2 and previous versions) by adding the word "noauth" (for no authorization)
to /etc/ppp/options. I tried this time but my dial-up would connect and then
instantly be bounced off the line.

I would appreciate the help of a Networking expert and will be glad to make a
modest donation (as part of the MandrakeExpert policy). I would prefer to
talk to someone on the phone (in English) who resides in the United States. I
will be happy to call the expert and obviously cover all phone costs.

This may sound like a major project, but actually it is not. I understand all
the basic concepts and have already configured all of these services before
in LM 8.0. I think the problem has to do with the conflict between using
Linuxconf and the Wizards in Mandrake Control Center. That's where things
started to fall apart. I am sure that the whole business, with us on the
phone, couldn't take more than 15 minutes. I just need to know the precise
procedure for doing this in LM 8.0. I don't want to depend on luck, which is
what happened, to some extent, in my earlier configuration. I have since
reinstalled my LM 8.0, which is operating perfectly. All that's left is
Networking. Meanwhile, I do have ADSL access. But since I lost ADSL access in
my earlier installation (and could never get it to work properly after that),
I would rather not mess with Networking at all until I can discuss this with
a Mandrake expert. My only request is that such an expert familiarize
himself/herself IN DETAIL with the new Mandrake Control Center's Wizards for
configuring Networking. This will make possible a swift resolution of all
Networking issues.

Thank you so much.

Benjamin
