Hi!

Here's my /usr/games folder that was made during the install of Mandrake 7.2:

drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Mar 30 18:10 Maelstrom/
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 17148 Oct 3 2000 banner*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 876600 Oct 3 2000 chromium*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root games 539420 Oct 3 2000 civclient*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root games 619420 Oct 3 2000 civserver*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 402040 Oct 3 2000 clanbomber*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 14172 Oct 9 2000 fortune*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 63900 Oct 3 2000 gltron*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 48572 Oct 3 2000 penguin-command*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1489080 Oct 2 2000 pingus*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 87 Oct 2 2000 rocksndiamonds*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 248764 Oct 2 2000
rocksndiamonds.wrapped*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 313688 Oct 3 2000 trophy*
-rwx--s--x 1 games games 52380 Oct 3 2000 xsoldier*

Why are the file permissions, by default, like this? Why should some games
be owned by root, while others are owned by 'games' (same story with the
groups)?

And how come it's set up so that ANYONE can execute all those games? It
removes the need for a 'games' group entirely.

Does anyone agree that there is something wrong with this default setup -- or
am I wrong :) ?

Thanks,
George Petri
