It is very likely that your "old modem" is a true one, that is to say it has a controller inside and is reachable from the CPU by the simple Hayes set of commands. Since (about) '96, modems are winmodems and the CPU has to manage them directly. The CD-ROM delivered by the manufacturers generally do not include any driver for Linux. Therefore you need to find the appropriate one on the web. I suggest you have a look at : http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html or http://www.linmodems.org/ Regards --- Patrick Bussi [EMAIL PROTECTED] Any opinions expressed are my own and not necessarily those of my Company. It doesn't respond to any query. It is not a hardware problem (the thing works almost correctly under Win95) and not a serial port config problem (If I unplug it and replace it by my old Olitec, things works immediately without even having to reboot) In fact, the programs that I have used (Harddrake, kppp) seems to not even see that there is a physical device on /dev/ttyS0. Any idea to help solving this mystery ? Thanks in advance. Gilles WARNING : New Email address : [EMAIL PROTECTED] ( @aeromatra.com and @eads-nv.com are no more available )
