I have those links in every home directory of every user on my system. In
all the home directories except the user currently logged in the link is red
and flashing, indicating that it is a broken link. In the home directory of
the user logged in, the link point like this (warning: broken line length):

Having found that out, I have no idea what creates the link when a user logs
in, but this might provide a clue:
