[expert] Boot hangs with Super-IO Detection

Once again this has happened to me.  It's very frustrating. I have found no 
useful assistance by searching the archives.

The computer hangs during boot at the Super-IO detection phase. 

What causes this?

How do I fix it?

Can I avoid it in the future?
