[expert] kmail- quickly mark all mail read

Is there a faster way to mark all mail in a fold as read than doing this:

edit -> select all messages
message-> set status to -> read

I know this may not look like much work, but I hate using drop down lists if 
I can hotkey things. even a hot key to select all would be cool. I don't 
understand why ctrl-a  doesn't do this. The drop down under Edit says "S" 
should select all, but I can't get that to work.

Any thoughts?
