Although the problems of the Avance Logic soundcards have been repeatedly
discussed and long howto-texts are available, I need some help for the
following problem.

I switched from MD 7.2 to MD 8.0 In MD 7.2 I used the alsa-package to bring
sound into my system by integrating the als100-module (witch works also for
als120) into my kernel. Then I could use alsamixer and alsaplayer to listen
to CDs and wav-files. The CD-player in the multimedia submenue didn't work.

After switching to MD 8.0 and the new kernel there is an error message
during booting: "coundn't fetch soundmodule als100". After that the
ISA-PNP-soundmodule is correctly loaded. After booting I can use the
CD-player in the multimedia-submenue, while, of course, alsaplayer doesn't
work, since I haven't installed the alsa-package on my new system yet. But
what strikes me is that all other multimedia-devices don't work either:
they all hang when I am trying to start them --exept for the CD-player.

I think I have two options:

a. Integrate the alsapackage into the new kernel. But I am not sure if the
CD-player will work then, and after all I prefer the CD-player and not the
alsaplayer.

b. Delete the old alsaplayer-settings from the /etc/modules.config-file.
But when I do that, there is absolutely NO SOUND available on the system,
even the CD-Player doesn't work.

So which way would be best to come to a working system with good sound
integration?

Any hint very welcome!

Best,

Uwe
