Subject: Problem with the Gnome Desktop When using only Gnome"gmc" as my file manager it does not correctly display the desktop icons . The icons file on the desktop are the correct files from .gnome-desktop directory but that do not display the correct icons and the ".desktop " file extension shows on the desktop. I noticed this same type of problem all during the testing phase of 8.1 and had hoped it would be repaired with 8.1 proper. I have now freshly installed 8.1 and the problem is still there. I can correctly use Nautilus as the Desktop file manager but hate it. Is anyone else have this problem or is there a hack to repair?
