as I understand it, 2.96 from redhat and 2.96 from mandrake share only the
name,, they are different and mandrake's does not suffer from the faults of
the redhat one..

it seems that the package is just looking for the version number, you need
to remove the check for it from the script.

There may be an easier way, but that would difinatly work.

Note: gcc 2.96 is RedHat's UNOFFICIAL and BUGGY gcc release. gcc 2.96 is
TOTALLY UNSUPPORTED by us.
So is this really true??? MPlayer did not work.
