as I understand it, 2.96 from redhat and 2.96 from mandrake share only the name,, they are different and mandrake's does not suffer from the faults of the redhat one..
it seems that the package is just looking for the version number, you need to remove the check for it from the script. There may be an easier way, but that would difinatly work. rgds Frank -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Yrj Pokkinen Sent: Sunday, 4 November 2001 8:16 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [expert] broken gcc 2.96? I was tried to install mplayer to watch DVD:s and DivX videos. When saying configure I got the message: Please wait while ./configure discovers your system. (By the way I have Linux-Mandrake 8.1) Checking version gcc..2.96,bad. Please downgrade/upgrade gcc compiler to gcc-2.95.x or gcc-3.x version Note: gcc 2.96 is RedHat's UNOFFICIAL and BUGGY gcc release. gcc 2.96 is TOTALLY UNSUPPORTED by us. So is this really true??? MPlayer did not work.
