swap actually isn't a partition where you can change the formatting style.
It must be left as is.

There was also some talk on either the newbie or expert list regarding
using ext3 on a / partition.  I think the consensus was that if you had a
separate /boot, that would be ok (I think), but without that, I'd strongly
suggest not converting / to ext3.
