Exactly the same probs I've been having, Only fix I can find involves getting the simple settings and files from the .kde folder that you dont want to lose ie kab kmail and desktop and colour scheme, and binning the entire rest of .kde. Then start in console mode and as your user
rm -rf /tmp/* rm [any .mcop and .dcop references in your home directory] Restart with kde drop those files you saved into the relevant places in .kde, log out, log back and there you are. This seems to work but is admittedly an ungraceful solution (read Pain in the a*se!)
