Hi,

Is there a feature that allows me to save my package selections? I'm
thinking of something that will allow me to do a very careful
customization of which of the > 1000 packages I want, and save it.

Then I should be able to reinstall a second time, and in the second
installation, I should be able to skip the package selection step by
loading in my saved list of preferred packages. Maybe this could use
the floppy drive.

Ideally this should work across different releases from the same
distro. Ie. I should be able to use the same list with 7.2, 8.0, 8.1,
8.2 all through all betas. ie. what is saved is that I always use
"mutt" and "gnucash" (a very long list) etc, and not the particular
version numbers.

I think this feature would be similar to the ability to do kernel
configurations (during kernel compilation) once and save the
configuration to a disk file, and reload it for future kernel
compilations. The number of choices that one needs to make in both of
these cases is very large, and ideally one should do it only once, and
then only have to make minor modifications. The only difference is
that the hard disk stays between kernel compiles, but not across
distro installations. Which is why I suggest the floppy for storing
and reading the package listing.

I think it would be a really neat and useful feature.
