Don't know enough on this to say anything with authority, but I am curious about one thing. Near as I can tell the stock kernel with 8.1 came out before the change in the LVM and the ensuing "wars" .... the version in 8.2 has the new one. Could this be the cause of the trouble? I'm grabbing at straws I know but it is a possibility, however slight you may feel, that the problem isn't Mandrake but rather the kernel itself. Has anyone tried an un-Mandraked kernel to see if the same conditions appear?
