  I wish I could remember what it was I tweaked but for about 6 months I
had a box with the Intel 815 setup doing the same thing.  I kept playing
with the BIOS when I had time and one day I finally hit the right combo.
 For some reason my BIOS swore I didn't have a hard drive installed on
the box.  Then I noticed that the CDROM on the same controller was
recognized.  So I just kept playing with the system settings.  No matter
what I did with the HDD it didn't help.  Finally I reset to default and
made a tweak.... undid the same tweak until poof it worked.  Could be a
bios thing for you as well since it does boot from floppy.
