I wish I could remember what it was I tweaked but for about 6 months I had a box with the Intel 815 setup doing the same thing. I kept playing with the BIOS when I had time and one day I finally hit the right combo. For some reason my BIOS swore I didn't have a hard drive installed on the box. Then I noticed that the CDROM on the same controller was recognized. So I just kept playing with the system settings. No matter what I did with the HDD it didn't help. Finally I reset to default and made a tweak.... undid the same tweak until poof it worked. Could be a bios thing for you as well since it does boot from floppy.
