Todd, Eugene, Hoyt and others. I once again have a stable box. 9.0beta4 and the daily cooker updates, did it. It sits here like a rock for sure. One question.
In 8.0,1,and 2 it only recognizes my VGA as having 4096k of video ram 9.0 recognizes 16megs. (i815 chipset onboard video) Bios is set to 64. RedHat 7.3 and SuSe 8.0 on the same box see all 64megs of video ram. cat /proc/meminifo total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached: Mem: 527622144 521601024 6021120 0 70987776 257007616 Swap: 1159753728 4386816 1155366912 MemTotal: 515256 kB MemFree: 5880 kB MemShared: 0 kB Buffers: 69324 kB Cached: 250436 kB SwapCached: 548 kB Active: 143888 kB Inactive: 261892 kB HighTotal: 0 kB HighFree: 0 kB LowTotal: 515256 kB LowFree: 5880 kB SwapTotal: 1132572 kB SwapFree: 1128288 kB As you see no shared memory is seen. RH and SuSe however do see it. If I manually edit XF86Config X will not start or error it just hangs. (ctrl-alt-f1 is the only cure.) If I pass mem=448M at boot (512 - 64) no change except the system now has less total ram. (Yes my mobo is maxed out) Question is how do I activate shared memory. for now I can't do 24 bit color in any mode and 3d acceleration suffers greatly. Any ideas?
