What happens when you put in a username longer than 8 characters? We give 8-character names to all students, but several faculty members have usernames longer ... I think a maximum of about 12. Once in a while you don't see more than 8 characters in a listing, but otherwise than that it seems to work OK. This is on a Mandrake 8.2 server with Win 98 and LTSP clients. And as for Windows, as far as I know almost every Win2K and WinXP box has a user named Administrator ... although ridiculous (I'd lots rather be root ;-) it IS 13 characters. -- Jan Wilson, SysAdmin _/*]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Corozal Junior College | |:' corozal.com corozal.bz Corozal Town, Belize | /' chetumal.com & linux.bz Reg.
