On my LM 8.1 system I have to install a newer version of autoconf. Using the rpm from rpmfind.net for autoconf 2.53-7, it says that it requires perl >= 5.6.0. LM 8.1 rpm says that it has perl 5.601-6mdk installed, which I take to mean that it meets the criterion. However, when I try to install the autoconf rpm, the Software Manager refuses, complaining that the installation needs perl "File::Compare <>=S", and a relatively short list of similar errors, but with no indication of what perl rpm is needed. Since there are roughly a bzillion perl rpms of various kinds floating around, I don't want to start messing with those unless I have a better idea of exactly what I am supposed to do, otherwise I can easily imagine myself ending up with a completely broken perl. So, does anyone have version 2.53 of autoconf running on an LM 8.1 system; and if so, how did you do it?
