[expert] Startup time and prebinding

I use linux almost every day and I noticed that apps provided with it take more time to load than in windows.
Example: Qcad in win2k and linux mdk9; openoffice 1.0.1, mozilla (same box: cel400 192 MB ram).

What about prelinking? could it improve startup times? if yes, would it impact on peformances somewhere else?
