I base that assumption on the fact that an older pre-2001 ADAPI zip disk had problems, and later on, using the same distro, Mandrake 8.1, I put a brand-new out of the box Zip drive in and it began functioning much better, including just about anyplace on the IDE chain. > It worked just fine from 7.2 onward in the above mentioned spot, that is > until 9.0... If we wanted to discuss hardware errors, we could, of course, examine the history of my ATI All-in-Wonder TV card, which has never worked with Linux as a TV tuner. (although I hear they are still working on that idea) No matter how they fix it, the solution will be pretty complex, IMHO. ;-) > I have everything working now except LICQ which only works as root.. > 'Nother story, 'nother day <G>..... Yes, but as I told Vincent in e-mail a few days ago, Mandrake really works pretty well. I've been running the KDE desktop as my primary workstation now for over a year, and although it sometimes jitterbugs and tapdances its way toward perdition just like Windoze, I can sit down and write a document or spreadsheet with near-complete compatibility with MS-Office, handle e-mail and read usenet all with a high degree of reliability and comfort. It just doesn't get much better than that! 8-) Dave - -- Dave Laird ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) The Used Kharma Lot / The Phoenix Project Web Page: http://www.kharma.net updated 01/02/2003 Music Calendar & Website: http://www.kharma.net/calendar.html Usenet news server : news://news.kharma.net An automatic & random thought For the Minute: I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. -- J.
