You guys can all make it easy on yourself by installing demime and
making your inbound mail all pipe through it. It does two things really
well:
1) if incoming mail has multiple mime attachments, it takes the
text/plain type and converts it to a non-mime email and strips all other
attachments (this includes gifs, mp3's, mime pgp sigs, etc).
2) if incoming mail is mime and only has a text/html type, it will
convert it to a plain text non-mime email.

It REALLY is a great program and works seamlessly for you, the end
recipient.

Now there's a certain amount of logic to "if someone sends me html, I
probably don't want it" too. I am on a lot of technical lists. Sign #1
that the person is not technical enough to be on the list is that the
email is in html. It's not a 1:1 relationship, but it's very close.

This list on the other hand, doesn't quite fall into that category. It
involves people asking for help. Many times, it is people who are not
yet technical, but are striving to get there. So a _little_ slack
should be extended.

Personally, I use mutt and have it set to automatically pipe html mail
through lynx so that I can read it. It involves two lines (one in
.muttrc and one in ~/.mailcap) worth of configuration and works well. I
do see a lot more crap than I used to, but I'm also seeing a few things
that I want to.

Just some rambling thoughts. Hope everybody has a great weekend.

Blue skies... todd
