If I'm right HighPoint HPT372 is only supported through a kernel patch you should download from their homepage. If it is a HPT370 one, then kernel 2.4.20 and above support dma in it (not sure about 2.4.19).

Alan Cox's ide patches from 2.4.20-ac1 were merged in the cooker kernel about 9.1 beta3. As a consequence, I am able to install to a disk on my hpt372 with the newer Mandrake kernels. I cannot speak about raid arrays.
