Not to resurrect the optimizing/rebuilding srpms discussion again, but I ran across some new info. This is related to gcc compiler performance, but I think it indicates that it's definitely worthwhile to optimize the major apps and libraries. Anyway, for those interested, this site offers some pretty convincing comparisons (it's really short, just one page).
