There are several Mandrake kernels on the install cd's. You have to 
specifically compile in support for upto 4GB ram (theres another option for 
upto 16GB) if you have more than ~900MB.

The enterprise kernel supports upto 4GB ram, and will be installed during 
install if the installer detects more than ~900MB.

The kernel.org kernel has these same 'limitations'. I reality, you are 
changing the addressing mechanism the kernel uses.
