At this point (as with all) MC> any help is appreciated :) Resolvement: the CUPS config apparently was set to poll the printer every 30 seconds (!?). We #'d the line, and it seems the problem is gone, but I find it odd that the problem even occurred in the first place - perhaps not an inherent problem with the 30-sec poll setting (by default, because I didn't touch it), but with the end result.
