Three tier web site, minimum six servers, tiers are:

Presentation -- Apache with mod_proxy and mod_ssl, basically. Dumb box
that just handles making it look purty and scale.

Intelligence -- This is the application server. The part that does all
the heavy lifting, creating web pages, producing an insurance quote,
formulating your query and screening the results...

Storage -- A database cluster, maybe with some external storage too.

No. It's a publishing system essentially -- nice bells and whistles
might include document aging, format/language translation, and workflow.
