I think you're looking for vnc (tightvnc, actually). It allows you to log into the WM of your choice from a remote X workstation. Install tightvnc and tightvnc-server on the machines. On the server, type "vncserver" and give it a password. On the client machine, type "vncserver 1.2.3.4:1" enter the password, and you're in. Replace the 1.2.3.4 with the IP of the server, obviously.
