One solution is to delete all .index* files after using Pine and before opening KMail. Is this safe? What are these index* files used for? Is there a better solution?
The simplest way is to setup an IMAP server to store your mail (which you can retrieve with fetchmail). Then you can read it with whatever you want, from wherever you want. Using IMAPS (with an SSL layer) is even better if you're doing it through the net.
