1. AG is short for "Aktiengesellschaft" which means the company is owned by stockholders and has to have a certain structure of management (besides a few other rules in the accounting department). SuSe was founded in 1992 as GmbH but changed into a AG in 1997. Read up (in german) at http://www.suse.de/de/company/suse/suse/factsheet.html Here's a short part of a Heise-article, translated from German for your convenience: --------------------------- The current owners have already agreed to the sale to Novell. SuSE Linux AG belonged to 1. the risk investor company e-millennium (32%) which is owned by SAP and Deutsche Bank (among others); 2.Apax (21%); 3.Adastra(20%); Rest of the stock is owned by Intel Capital, IBM, Hewlett-Packard and SGI (together 12%); and small parts for the founders of SuSE and employees. -------------------------------- wobo
