G'day there Lorenzo,

Thanks for answering so quickly. It's much appreciated.

OK, now I know. That makes sense.

    I get an error message:

       Import Error

    Error importing /path/to/picture/picture.jpg
SQL logic error or missing database

...for each picture unless I click 'Cancel'

    However I have a 16384 Byte photos.db file in ~/.gnome2/f-spot/
that's owned by me and with write privileges for me and read for
everyone else. Is that right?

Yes, I did except that the downgrade consisted of a hd reformat and
complete install of the earlier version. I then installed f-spot through
the synaptic package manager once again and it hasn't worked in spite of
my kind thoughts towards it (just in case my earlier cursing had
offended it).

See ya
