Have you tried to reproduce the bug? The patch in that bug just seems to fix the rights of the files when it copies them to f-spots photo store?

Create a folder
Put some photos in it
Create an sub folder in that folder
Change the UNIX permissions on the sub folder to 000
Start F-spot and try to import the folder containing the photos and
the sub folder
*bang*

F-spot dies

This has worked in the past but appeared in the GIT version during November. I am unsure if it is F-Spot or my upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 that is the real problem.
