I also liked f-spot since a long time ago, it was the default photo manager in 
Ubuntu (between 2005 and 2008 ?). Somewhere in 2012 it became increasingly 
difficult to install the latest released version (which was somewhere in 2010) 
on a modern linux distro (also see: 
https://kennywest.blogspot.com/2012/05/f-spot-dead.html). So when I installed 
my new PC, I switched to digikam. If you have an existing collection in f-spot, 
it should be fairly easy to migrate it to digikam.

That is a personal decision, there are no absolute ansers.  I  
personally still like F-Spot, but I would not recommend it now for a  
new user, although there is some current development work going on, and  
I hope it will return to a more active and supported status in the near  
future.

To choose a photo manager, you really need to try it yourself, even if  
only with a small number of photos.
