F5 Class-mates,

I've been traveling constantly with my job and thus very late to hear the
good news about a couple of our improvement proposals being ruled on. This
is great news as a majority of our class was in support of them. Like
others, I too think the weight reduction for Kawi's is a simple and elegant
way to a modest improvement for those cars. Will it get any of them outta
the garage and onto the track? Only time will tell, but remember . . . not
everyone is looking to win the National Championship. It may be just enough
to allow an old Kawi to run "reasonably fast", have a good dice with the
faster Vees, and have fun. That is why we do this, fun, right?

I'd also like to pass along my thanks to Stan. He's very modest, but has
been tremendous resource and leader to our class.

Will these proposals and changes help "rejuvenate" our class? Does our
class even need "rejuvenation"? We've already debated these subjects here
on the list, let's not renew the thread. I only bring it up again as a
segway into what's happening in Texas/SOWDIV. 3 years ago there were no
F5's running. We're now up to 3 National and 2 Regional licensed drivers,
with 3 more joining in 2007. Our growth will be from 0 to 8 in 4 years.
Moreover, we get countless inquiries at every event. You might be surprised
at who is inquiring . . . of course some Karters, FSAE "kids", but get this
. . . FV guys. The FV costs continue to rise and the cars aren't getting
any faster/funner. All this to say . . . if we keep our formula "fresh"
(unlike the Vees and Fords), we might find that formula drivers will migrate
TO F5 instead of FROM F5.

Lastly, if you haven't already . . . PLEASE write a quick E-mail to the CRB
in support of those Improvement Items that you wish to see happen for our
class.

I greatly look forward to seeing many of you at Topeka this October.

Shiny Side Up,
Joe Palmer
TX Novakar #56

are those in paragraphs 2 & 3 which immediately follow. Everything else he
lists is approved or recommended. Note that the water system stuff is a
"rule change", so is recommended to the BoD for approval for next season (1
Nov 06), while lowering the Kawi weight to 700 is a competition adjustment,
so is in effect from May 1st.

salute Joe Palmer for his leadership getting this project off the ground,
and Jay Novak for drafting many of the proposals -- and to all of you who
wrote to the CRB to make your inputs. We will be taking up some more of the
proposals at next week's face-to-face, and we hope to cover the balance in
the June cycle so that all of them are considered in time to make
recommendations on each issue to the BoD in time for them to act on them for
the 2007 season (starts 1 Nov 06).

issues. Send us your thoughts to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and they will be forwarded to
the Advisory Committee and the CRB.
