With the engine running, you will see a rather high voltage on the ignition
switch as this is the voltage being used to charge the CD module.  The
switch voltage is AC and should be measured with your meter set in the AC
position.

I made some notes on voltages with the system operating normally and I
measured 51V AC from the high side to ground on the on/off switch on my Kaw
when idling at 3,500 RPM.

You don't say if you are using a Rotax or Kaw.  The other voltages sound
about right, but I don't understand why your battery is heating up.  Are
these starts in rapped succession ?

What type of battery are you using ?  The battery should not heat up.  Your
starter maybe in need of repair or your battery terminals are loose or of to
small size.
