Just an FYI, I have a buddy at NASCAR, he did all the research on the neck
restraints and also the Earnhardt investigation, for what it's worth, he says
the Hans is the ONLY one that works.

'Not as expensive' has been effectively banned, as of yesterday. Any
supplemental restraint device in use must now meet SFI 38.1, which
effectively eliminates all competitors in this area except for HANS and
Hutchens/LFT. Given that 38.1 seems to have been written to exclude
anything with a price point below that of the HANS, well.....this one
is right up there with our 2-year belt rule. It is interesting that
the limit was set at 4000N, when the SRS-1 had previously been tested,
with a result of 4010N.
The original Hutchens, the SRS-1, the Wright device and the ISAAC are
no longer legal in SCCA competition.
Given my seating position (steep recline, with helmet chin bar VERY
close to my chest), the only ones that stood a chance of working for me
were the SRS-1 and the ISAAC - I guess that SCCA would prefer that I
use nothing.
I'm still trying to understand how we have a rigid specification for an
'optional' safety device. What will the legal implications be for the
club when someone receives a severe injury after leaving their
now-illegal ISAAC or SRS-1 in the trailer rather than wearing it?
