Cory - The earliest of AMW's became air cooled - when their crank bearings disintegrated.
The first AMW's mechanically were not up to the stresses of having a CVT clutch hung on the crank snout and trashed the bearings with frequent regularity. The AMW's used in F500 were all water cooled. I just ordered an AMW starter for the first time in about 4 years, and they asked me a question that they've never asked before - which starter. In the past, I just asked for the starter that fits the motor used in F500 and they sent it to me. They asked whether the starter I use is black or silver. When I told them silver, they said that is the starter for the air cooled engine. Even though I use their starter, I've never used an AMW engine. Are the AMW engines used in our class air cooled? Also, for the guys using AMW engines, does your starter look like a factory Polaris starter - silver/gold color, about 7" long and 3" wide, with an open bendix?
