Interesting question, the rules don't say they have to be cylindrical but they 
mention a diameter, rectangles don't have a diameter.  I'm sure the cylinder 
design is again to allow the resistance to be progressive, so I'm not sure what 
you would gain,   WAIT, if you went rectangular solid and put them in a diamond 
position you would have progressive and longer stroke.      I just don't know
