CRB & BOD, While the F500 community debates about the "Motor of the Future", I would like to bring attention to the small (but facing quick attention) issue of 2 cycle motor supplies. Both the 494 non-Rave and 493 Rave motors are no longer in production and both in the used market are getting harder to find (just ask Greg Olsen who is in this business). I would like to propose that the used 494 Rave motors which Greg says are very plentiful be allowed in our class with the following restrictions: 1. Must run at the same weight as the 493 = 825 lbs. 2. The best 494 Rave model must be published that has all the "right" components already in it - rotary valve, ignition box, compression, etc.; the remaining components are kept stock, not modified. 3. With an official list of approved component part numbers, other 494's can upgrade to this Rave version. 4. The rest of the motor stays the same. I am hoping that Greg Olsen at Olsen Power will volunteer to name the best 494 Rave model and then assemble the part numbers for those components that will make other 494's equivalent to this model. This will result in a good supply of used motors while the F500 community explores the long range solutions.
